Senior Photonics Test Development Engineer

Build automated test systems for next-generation photonics devices.

Cactus Materials is looking for a Senior Photonics Test Development Engineer to design, develop, and deploy automated test solutions for VCSEL arrays, edge-emitting laser arrays, and photodetector arrays in high-volume photonics manufacturing.

Job Title

Senior Photonics Test Development Engineer

Location: Tempe, AZ

Job Description

Design, develop and deploy automated test solutions for a new generation of GaAs-based photonics devices including VCSEL arrays, edge-emitting laser arrays and photodetector arrays. Industrial experience in high-volume photonics manufacturing is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product development, engineering and production teams to understand, interpret, and communicate product test requirements for semiconductor laser and photodetector arrays
  • Generate test plans, create project plan and timeline for test development, and assess project risks and gaps
  • Design, develop, validate, deploy, and improve automated production test solutions for VCSEL arrays, edge-emitting laser arrays and photodetector/sensor arrays. Test solutions include wafer-level probers, burn-in systems, and packaged photonic device testers
  • Write and maintain software for automated test systems for engineering and production use, including environmental testing, automated calibration, and data analysis
  • Develop other tools and methods in support of compound semiconductor material development and reliability programs.
  • Work in a team environment with ownership over specific tasks, including the writing of procedures and participating in design verification, failure analysis and yield improvement
  • Perform GR&R Measurement System Analysis for all equipment used for testing
  • Implement database management for data analytics and traceability. Develop systems and interfaces to report test results to engineering and production teams in a clear and precise manner
  • Maintain compliance to quality (ISO9001) standards and customer specific requirements as applicable.
  • Write test procedures and provide training to technicians, operators, and other users

Requirements

  • MS or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the industry with at least 3 years in volume Photonics manufacturing involving wafer-level, die-level, and packaged device testing
  • Proven track record in developing, implementing, deploying, and improving test solutions in a volume semiconductor laser and photodetector array manufacturing environment. Test solutions include wafer-level probers, burn-in systems, and packaged photonic device testers
  • Strong hands-on experience in test software development using one or more of the following languages: Visual Basic, LabVIEW, Phython, C, .NET
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and transfer to manufacturing of VCSELs, EELs, and photodetectors
  • Hands-on experience and deep understanding of designing production test for quality and cost
  • Demonstrated ability with troubleshooting, problem solving and critical thinking
  • Experience in statistical process control, data analysis and qualification techniques
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision
  • Hands-on experience in high-speed opto-electronic test development is highly desirable
  • Hands-on experience in VCSEL reliability testing and FMEA is highly desirable
  • Experience with database structure and MySQL is a plus
  • Experience with Applications Engineering involving both technical and business support to customers (such providing technical information about how to use the products, technical data, samples) is highly desirable
